Netherlands Netherlands

The Netherlands is a beautiful and spectacular country located in the northwest of Europe. From the busy streets of Amsterdam to the quiet gardens of Keukenhof, the Netherlands is attractive and spectacular for every tourist. This country is famous in the world for its beautiful tulips and windmills.

About 50% of the land in the Netherlands is less than one meter above sea level. This is because the name of this country in the Dutch language, Nederland, means “low-lying country” and the name that many other languages use for this country also gives the same meaning.

Geography and population

The Netherlands is a small country with about 17 million people. The capital of this country is the beautiful city of Amsterdam. The Netherlands borders Germany to the east, Belgium to the south, and Great Britain to the west by the sea. The port of Rotterdam is the second largest city in the Netherlands, and in terms of area and the number of berths it has, it is also considered the largest port in Europe.

The area of this country is 33,500 square kilometers. The Netherlands is the 69th most populous country in the world and the 10th most populous country in the European Union. Due to its fertile soil, mild climate, and modern and innovative agriculture, this small country is the second-largest exporter of food and agricultural products in the world in terms of economic value. The Netherlands is the most important country in the world in the cultivation and trade of flowers and in this respect, it holds the first place in the world.

The official language of the Netherlands is Dutch. This language is a branch of Germanic languages and is similar to German. Some French words have also been absorbed into the Dutch language from the periods of French domination over this region. The geographical range of the Dutch language includes the northern provinces of Belgium in addition to the Netherlands. Localized Dutch dialects have been used in the Dutch colonies, including Suriname. Also, the Dutch are interested in learning foreign languages in such a way that between 91 and 93% of them can converse in English, 71% in German, 29% in French, and 5% in Spanish.

The average height of Dutchmen is 184 cm, which has placed the Netherlands in first place among the tallest people in the world, after the Netherlands, Norwegian men are in second place with 183 cm.

Some of the world’s most famous painters such as Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Johannes Vermer, John Stein, Jacob Isaacson, and Piet Mondrian are from the Netherlands, and for this reason, this country has played an important role in the history of painting.
