Despite its challenging past, Africa has come a long way in terms of economic, social, and political development.

After Asia, Africa is the second largest and second most populated continent in the world. With an area of more than 30 million square kilometers, including the adjacent islands, it covers 6% of the total surface of the earth and 20% of the land area of the planet. With a population of 1.4 billion (by 2021), Africa accounts for about 18% of the world’s population. Africa’s population is the youngest among all continents. Largely due to the effects of colonialism, corrupt governments, and tyranny, Africa is the poorest inhabited continent in the world.

According to estimates, Africa contains more than a thousand languages, some have estimated this number to be more than two thousand. Africa is the most multilingual continent in the world, and it is not uncommon to find people who speak fluently not only several African languages but also one or two European languages.
